Maritime engineering stakeholders identified weak standardisation, technical dependence and gaps in local capability as major barriers to realising greater value from Nigeria’s blue economy.
Industry experts warned that policy fragmentation, weak standardisation and limited technical independence could prevent Nigeria from capturing the full economic value of its maritime sector.
NIMENA called for deliberate investment in indigenous engineering, local standards, research and skills development as the foundation for a more technically sovereign maritime economy.
