NIMENA calls for stronger local capacity in the maritime sector

At the Plug and Play x NIMENA Innovation Night during Singapore Maritime Week, NIMENA called for stronger indigenous capacity, technical independence and deeper collaboration across Nigeria’s maritime ecosystem.

NIMENA National Chairman Engr. Dr. Eferebo I. Sylvanus, FNSE, used the international platform to argue that Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions must be supported by local engineering capability, standards, certification systems and innovation capacity.

The discussions emphasised the value of a Triple Helix approach that connects government, industry and academia. Participants also explored maritime innovation hubs, applied research, technology partnerships and stronger Nigeria–Singapore collaboration.

For NIMENA, the event reinforced a consistent institutional priority: Nigerian engineers and innovators should play a central role in designing, validating and scaling solutions for the country’s maritime future.
