NIMENA launches trend report for the advancement of shipbuilding
NIMENA has launched a forward-looking trend report that sets out a technology-led pathway for strengthening Nigeria’s shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore engineering and maritime innovation ecosystem.
The report, developed with Plug and Play Singapore, examines how Nigeria can build a more competitive maritime manufacturing ecosystem through engineering capability, digital transformation, innovation and supportive policy reform.
Rather than competing only on production volume, the report points toward a phased strategy that begins with digital technologies and engineering capability, then advances toward smart manufacturing and automation. It highlights technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics and digitally enabled supply chains as important opportunities for indigenous shipbuilding.
NIMENA positions the report as a practical call for collaboration among government agencies, shipyards, investors, research institutions, universities, professional bodies and private-sector stakeholders. The wider objective is to deepen local content, expand high-value technical employment and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a maritime industrial hub in Africa.
