The Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (NIMENA) is a body representing marine engineering and Naval Architecture professionals in Nigeria. The body was initially known as MENA Division of the NSE after it was approved as a Division by the Council of NSE in 2006.

In line with the vision of the then NSE President, Engr. Otis Anyaeji, FNSE, to promote professionalism, the body transformed into NIMENA on 24 October 2017.

NIMENA, proudly established as the Society of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (SMENA), is a core division within the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and serves as Nigeria’s premier professional body dedicated to advancing the fields of marine engineering, naval architecture, and allied marine sciences and engineering. As a trusted partner of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), NIMENA has been at the forefront of marine and naval regulatory and professional development in Nigeria, working diligently to uphold standards and foster growth within these critical sectors

The day-to-day activities of the Institution have always been administered by the National and Chapter Executive Committees including Standing Committees. However, to further strengthen the Institution, the General Assembly in their wisdom considered and approved the establishment of a Governing Council on 09 November 2018.

The objects and purposes for which the Institution is constituted are to promote and deepen the study, training and practice of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture in Nigeria, to enhance the professional status of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects, to encourage research and development in the field of marine engineering and Naval Architecture, to create a platform for the promotion of rapport among professional colleagues and with other professional bodies, to collaborate with industry, Academia and other such bodies as may be necessary or convenient for the advancement of any of the objectives of the Institution, to promote awareness of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture in Colleges and Universities with a view to leveraging the academic curriculum with marine industry experience, to facilitate the training of students in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture as well as encouraging continuous professional development of members.

We strive to achieve the Aims and Objects of the Institution by shared commitment of members, members motivation through reward/recognition for hard work and a demonstration of our commitment for the welfare of members evident through deliberate institution of a Group Life Assurance Scheme for members covering death and disability.

We are also focused on the growth of the maritime industry in which we operate. We continuously take steps to support the growth of the industry through consistent advocacy.
