Committees
The day to day activities of NIMENA are administered by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Chapter Executive Committees (CHEXCO). The NEC is supported by Statutory and Ad-Hoc Committees. Ditto for CHEXCO and the Council of NIMENA (CONIM) which also have the powers to set up Ad-Hoc Committees to administer their affairs.
Statutory Committees
Codes & Standards Committee
Duties:
1. To champion the development and domestication of National Codes and Standards for Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture practice
2. Liaise with stakeholders to discuss the codes developed
3. Liaise with Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to finalize work on the codes and standards developed
4. Shall submit reports of Committee activities to NEC and CONIM
Technical Committee
Duties:
1. In charge of all technical matters relating to Conferences
2. Ensures that suitable Journals and Newsletters are in place
3. Take steps to ensure that best practice approach for Journal publications are followed
4. Ensures that the website content is developed, maintained and updated regularly
5. Liaise with Technical Partner to ensure that innovations are brought to bear on the site.
6. Shall submit reports of its activities to NEC and CONIM
Audit Committee
Duties:
1. Carry out internal audit of the financial transactions of NIMENA
2. Ensure that audit is conducted in accordance with the generally accepted audit standards.
3. Ensure that timely report of audit is submitted to the NEC and CONIM
Finance and General-Purpose Committee
Duties:
1. Shall prepare the budget of NIMENA and present it at the CONIM meeting every July of each fiscal year
2. Shall monitor the performance of the budget, make necessary recommendations and submit report to the NEC and CONIM
Career Development Committee
Duties:
1. Create opportunities for members to advance their career through skill development programmes
2. To develop industry specific training programmes for members and the public
3. To organize career talks and competitions for students
4. Submit reports to NEC and Council on its activities
Complaint Committee
Duties:
1. Receive and expeditiously deal with complaints from members
2.Shall submit the reports of such to the NEC and CONIM
Membership Committee
Duties:
1. Shall update the membership application form and the Schedule of Fees as necessary
2. Shall receive applications from intending members and process such.
3. Ensures that the admission requirements for all categories of membership are dutifully adhered to.
4. Shall present their recommendations on the status of the applications to Council for consideration and approval
5. Shall transmit the CONIM decision to the applicant for follow up
Marine Incident Investigation Committee
Duties:
1. Shall document every record marine incident in the relevant Form
2. Shall take necessary steps to independently investigate incidents and make recommendations with a view to preventing recurrence.
3. Shall, if invited, work with government Committee to investigate a marine incident
4. Shall, in the case of (i) and (ii) submit report to Council for review and approval and authorize same to be submitted to relevant government agencies.
Engineering Regulations and Monitoring Committee
Duties:
1. Shall, if invited, work with COREN to monitor compliance with marine engineering practice and to work out measures to ensure proper regulation of marine engineering and Naval Architecture practice
2. Shall receive report of non-compliance with engineering regulations as it affects marine engineering and Naval Architecture practice and report same to COREN subject to approval of the NEC
3. Shall develop and continuously update the requirements for membership admission
4. Shall render reports to NEC and CONIM as necessary
Annual Dinner/Awards Committee
Duties:
1. To organize annual dinner and Awards
2. To set standard criteria for the selection of winners for the different award categories
3. Oversee the process of selection and announce the winners to members
4. Source for worthy sponsors for the ward categories
Quality Assurance Committee
Duties:
1. Shall conduct bi-annual audit of the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) twice a year
2. Shall within seven (7) working days submit the report of such audit to CONIM with a copy to the Business and Rules Committee
3. Shall develop and continuously update controlled Forms as found necessary
4. Shall review the SOP subject to the approval of CONIM
Ad-Hoc Committee
Electoral Committee
1. Shall draw up election guideline and announce the date of election
2. Shall communicate to members every open position for election
3. Shall receive applications from contestants
4. Shall conduct election in accordance with the provisions of NIMENA constitution and announce results immediately
